Painting window frames is something we love to do. In fact, refurbished (window) frames are literally are the signature for our craftsmanship and it is extremely satisfying to see how good the exteriors of ‘our’ buildings look.
Years of enjoyment from your frames
The basis for a (window) frame that can be enjoyed for many years is a clean, grease-free surface. We always use a water-based paint for interior (window) frames, and a turpentine-based alkyd resin paint for exterior frames. Moreover, if the customer chooses a darker colour tone for his or her exterior window frames, then we give a lifespan for that type of colour scheme of about half that of window frames painted in a lighter colour. Our years of experience has taught us this; it is caused by the effect of UV rays on dark-painted (window) frames.
How to paint frames
By taking a sample of the paint from the window frames that need a paint job, and having it tested in the laboratory of one of our paint suppliers, we can provide our customers with a customized action plan before we start to paint the windows and frames. This type of plan for painting the interior and exterior (window) frames is always put in writing and includes a detailed colour scheme chosen in consultation with the customer. When the thickness of a previously applied paint layer is more than a certain level (for those in the know: 400 Mu) we always choose to remove it completely. By means of stripping and/or the ‘peel away’ technique and/or burning off and/or blow drying and/or sanding down, our professionals create an underlay whereby the (window) frames are as smooth as a mirror after they have been painted.
Painting aluminium frames
Thorough knowledge of materials comes with the years. For example, at Parkstaete Schilderwerken we decided not to paint aluminium (window) frames, simply because we cannot guarantee that the delivered result will meet our high standards. Our advice for painting, refurbishing and restoring window frames is that it is best to do the inside and outside at the same stage of work. If that is too expensive for our customers, then in our opinion it is better to finish one frame completely, rather than to half finish three.
Mocht dat kostentechnisch voor onze klanten niet haalbaar zijn dan is het zelfs ons inziens beter om één kozijn volledig onder handen te nemen, dan drie 'voor de helft'.
Tip for your frames! Make no mistake, by asking the window cleaner to run a cloth over these refurbished frames, you can also play an important role in keeping them in good condition. What a lot of home owners forget is that particles of dust, however fine, damage the paintwork.
